Cartoning machine installation and site preparation
Installation risk is reduced when the machine envelope, access route, services, production interfaces and responsibilities are confirmed before equipment leaves the supplier.

Freeze the installation envelope
The layout must show more than the machine footprint. Include doors and panels when open, operator positions, carton and leaflet replenishment, change-part handling, reject removal, cleaning access, maintenance withdrawal space, electrical cabinets, glue equipment where used and routes for moving materials around the line. Record the datum and direction of product flow so all suppliers work from the same orientation.

Allocate every installation responsibility
Create a responsibility matrix covering unloading, lifting, positioning, anchoring, electrical connection, air connection, network access, glue-system services, extraction, guarding between machines, conveyor modifications, line controls, risk-assessment updates, waste removal, permits, production materials, commissioning support and sign-off. “By customer” or “by others” should always identify a named responsible party and required completion date.
When the cartoner is integrated with existing equipment, survey the real line rather than relying only on historic drawings. Confirm the operating state of adjacent machines, available accumulation and the stop/start behaviour described in the cartoning line-integration guide.
Prepare services and data without assuming the final values
Exact connected load, air demand, pressure, network and extraction requirements must come from the approved machine documentation for the selected configuration. The site-preparation task is to verify that the available services match those requirements at the point of use and under realistic production demand. Do not copy utility values from a different model or preliminary concept.
- Identify the site supply, protection, isolation and connection standard.
- Verify compressed-air quality and capacity at the machine while other plant is operating.
- Agree network addressing, access approval, remote-support boundary and cybersecurity responsibilities.
- Confirm environmental limits, cleaning method, dust or vapour conditions and any product-specific site controls.
- Document the final cable, hose and duct routes so they do not obstruct access or create damage risk.
Plan installation, commissioning and handover as one sequence
Commissioning materials should be controlled and available in sufficient quantity for setup, challenge tests and operator practice. The site team should include production, engineering, quality and safety representatives needed to make decisions. Open issues must be recorded with owner, action and due date rather than passed informally into production.

Share the layout and access route before the machine envelope is fixed
Include photographs, dimensions, adjacent equipment, services and the intended installation window. Lancing can then identify the site interfaces that need confirmation in the quotation.

Send the factory layout, access route, adjacent-machine data, service information and planned installation window.
Capture the retained line before the cartoner layout is frozen
For a retrofit, the site-preparation record should include the existing line geometry, conveyor datum, product flow, services, access, guarding and control states. A new machine drawing is not enough when the retained equipment has not been measured and assigned an interface owner.
